Intertrust Group IT is looking for a Senior System Administrator / Team Lead to be located in Amsterdam.

Your position
As a member of the Group IT Operations team, you will report to the Head of Group IT Operations. Your primary role will be the ongoing development and management of Intertrust’s Infrastructure Team in line with the organization’s business plan and associated policies and procedures.  You will be responsible for providing support to the business, assisting them in resolving issues with their technical problems related to software and hardware.

In this role, you will lead, manage and develop the System Administration team across multiple sites, consisting of system administrators, help desk employees and general support personnel. The Team Lead will be responsible for the smooth operation of the local hub consisting of two company data centres, general IT support for the Amsterdam office, and managing remote IT support operations in the EMEA region.

The role requires a detailed and thorough understanding of IT management principles and significant experience of infrastructure management systems, and demands a broad set of skills, drawing from IT management; security & data security management; supplier management; project planning and management; system, network, database administration; business continuity planning and management; and service desk management amongst others. You must therefore have an excellent understanding of communication protocols, network devices, hubs / switches / router diagnostics. In addition, you should have a good knowledge of current and emerging technologies, understanding how they can be applied to optimise the organisation’s infrastructure, e.g. SAN, VMware, MS Office, Blackberry, printers, Microsoft Client and Server Operating Systems. In particular, you must have an excellent knowledge of operating in a virtual environment and implementing a multi-organisational active directory.

As the Senior Administrator, you will be expected to plan, design and lead key improvement projects across Intertrust’s operating environment. This will include the virtualisation of legacy systems (VSphere management and P2V etc), consolidating and integration of the active directory, establishing and implementing the support requirements for IT strategic projects, supporting the integration of new operating environments etc.

A confident manner and excellent interpersonal skills is therefore essential, as the role is highly visible within the business. Furthermore, as this is a group wide role, you will be working with local country support teams and management. Consequently, you will be expected to exhibit cultural understanding and good communication skills while maintaining global standards and requirements.

Experience within the financial business services arena is highly desirable but NOT essential.

Responsibilities include:

  • Act as a deputy to the Head of IT Operations, serving as a point of contact for all IT infrastructure related issues in Amsterdam keeping the IT team, local and group management informed through both regular and ad-hoc communication as required
  • Installation, management, and maintenance of the Company’s IT infrastructure (including servers, networks, communication, telephone systems, software and comm’s products), in line with company policy, ensuring that the infrastructure is easily maintainable and can be readily scalable to meet future growth needs
  • Working with other Intertrust IT managers to provide an IT infrastructure commensurate with a professional services organization and industry best practice
  • Monitor and manage the network to ensure availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance
  • Providing systems administration support to the business and the infrastructure / project teams; by identifying, prioritising and management of technical issues
  • Take ownership of problems and be proactive when dealing with user issues; monitoring, reporting, and troubleshooting on hardware, software, network performance and utilisation
  • Plan, coordinate, implement and enforce appropriate network and data security measures in accordance with group policy
  • Manage the EMEA region service desk, and where appropriate support the Hong Kong hub during European business hours
  • Monitor the effective management of backups and ensure that business critical services are maintained in accordance with company with business continuity and disaster recovery policy
  • Assist in the development of group IT based policies and procedures
  • Maintaining a high degree of customer service for all support queries, adhering to service management principles (ITIL)

Your Profile

  • You will preferably be educated to degree level in a computing or related subject
  • Well rounded IT training, ideally with a professional qualification (CCNA, MCITP, etc)
  • A minimum of 10 years experience within a similar role
  • Fluent in Dutch and English, verbally and in writing
  • A team player with good communication and people skills, who is pragmatic, flexible, customer-orientated and has a willingness to travel
  • Strong virtual server background (VMware/VSpehere, Windows and Active Directory), networking skills (TCP/IP, DHCP and DNS), and an extensive knowledge of Microsoft based operating systems such as Windows Server and Desktop OS
  • Exposure to remote management software and the ability to learn bespoke software
  • Knowledge of application development, an advantage
  • Analytical approach to troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with CoBIT, ISO 9000, ISO 27000, ISO 17799 etc
  • A project management qualification such as Prince 2 or PMI is an advantage, but not essential
  • Financial and trust services background desirable
