Intertrust supports video gaming developers in international expansion
28 August 2018
- Rise of online gaming increases demand for physical presence across key markets
- Netherlands dominant market for fast growth gaming sector
- Technology firms embrace outsourcing to facilitate rapid global expansion
As the $100b+ global games industry continues to grow, Intertrust has seen a surge in gaming companies seeking to rapidly establish a global network of offices to support their growing player communities. Especially the city of Amsterdam seems to be an attractive place to set up European headquarters.
Edwin Rijbroek, Director of Intertrust’s Global Business Solutions team, explains:
“The rising popularity of online gaming has led to an increased focus from game developers on online play, live streaming and regional and international tournaments, with the most popular games attracting large international player communities in a short space of time
To adequately support these communities, there is a critical business need to establish teams in appropriate time zones and with the necessary language and cultural expertise. In Europe, Amsterdam has been the principal beneficiary of this trend.
Given the complexity of establishing offices in unfamiliar jurisdictions, companies come to us to expedite that process, allowing them to maintain their momentum, and their competitive advantage. This means we can put in place critical back office functions such as HR, compliance and approval workflows, leaving the management team with the bandwidth to handle day to day business operations.”
The Netherlands has a strong track record attracting technology companies.
Rijbroek continues: “The Netherlands has long presented an outstanding business location, with its geographic position affording exceptional access to European markets. Technology is a hallmark of the Dutch economy, hosting the world’s largest internet exchange, outstanding technology universities and high rates of R&D, and is the most connected country in the world. This character presents an exceptional local talent pool for technology companies to hire from, as well as the pulling power to attract high calibre talent from overseas.”
